As-Sallam Alaykum Warahmatullah,
All praise and adoration to Al-Mighty Allah for allowing us to see the end of this year’s Ramadan. In between joy-celebrating the Eid-il-Fitr and sadness-that the blessed month has come to an end; we give thanks to Allah.
It was a short journey with a great and positive impact. No word can describe how I felt. I felt out of the world throughout the breath-taking month. Was it the ease of performing acts of worships that ordinarily would look stressful to me? Or how we inculcated new habits and/or stopped bad ones. For good 30 days, we were consistent with these habits. I was fascinated by the change of lifestyle during the month of Ramadan. This made me realise that I can do more than I did prior to Ramadan. It is a pointer that with great zeal, there is nothing we cannot achieve. The room for improvement is there. We can always set goals and achieve them.

While we celebrate the end of the blessed month, it should not be the end of the good habits we developed during the month. We should uphold the good habits, while we keep away from the bad habits we jettisoned. Ramadan has gone, the spirit of righteousness should remain with us.
Finally, to give a topping to the good deeds we did in Ramadan, we should strive to fast six days from Shawwal.
In a hadith related by Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari, The Prophet (Peace be upon Him) says:
Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan and then follow it with six days of fasting in the month of Shawwal, it will be as if he had fasted the year through.
(Sahih Muslim, 1163)
May Allah make it easy for us, Ameen.
With Sallam,
Safiyyah
